Proprietary stuff, what a bad choice! RouterOS has many features and SXT has pretty powerful hardware, but with level 3 licence you can't even work as a AP! Shame on you Mikrotik!
- To install OpenWRT to the 493AH, first format the NAND. This can easily be done via the bootloader (option e). 8 thoughts on “OpenWRT on the MikroTik RouterBoard 493AH” Michal says: March 27, 2012 at 5:52 am Hello, thank you for a nice cook-book on getting OpenWRT on the RB493AH. I am about to get a RB493G and I am wondering if this.
- Connect the eth1 port of the Mikrotik to the lan ports of the openwrt router. Unplug the power cable of the Mikrotik. With the proper tool press the reset button near the eth1 interface on the Mikrotik and hold it. Plug in the Mikrotik power cable.

Start by installing some tools on your machine to setup a TFTP and DHCP server:
sudo apt-get install isc-dhcp-server atftpd wireshark
If you didn't do this earlier, run Mikrotik WinBox to Export RouterOS License File (Optional: So you can re-install Mikrotik RouterOS at a later date, if needed) With existing RouterOS running on your RouterBoard, connect your PC to a LAN port on the RouterBoard (DHCP enabled). Use a web browser to get to the RouterOS login page (default at 192.
Write to /etc/default/atftpd
And to /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf
Then
The manual is at http://i.mt.lv/routerboard/files/SXTug.pdf. There you have a Button Index where you can see that if you hold the Reset button for more than 20 seconds (10 seconds after blinking stops) then Etherboot will be triggered.
Do this while watching Wireshark and /var/log/syslog
If things has gone correctly, you should be able to access the Luci web interface at http://192.168.1.1
Now you'll need a local webserver for wget2nand to download the kernel and the rootfs:
Mikrotik Routerboard Setup
Now flash!
If you want to flash multiple devices, setup one with the packages (I've installed rsync ppp-mod-pptp luci-app-qos) and configuration you want and package a new rootfs (replace IP of the template device):
